Blue Flag
On June 6, 2007 Wasaga Beach Provincial Park achieved Blue Flag status. This eco-label is awarded internationally to beaches and marinas that meet 27 criteria focused on water quality, environmental management, environmental education, and safety and services. Wasaga Beach Provincial Park is the first provincial or state managed park to receive this status.

Wasaga Beach Provincial Park has been practicing good standards in each of the four categories for many years. The international eco-label now provides recognition for the park's continued successes. The park must reapply for this eco-label each year, showing continued ability to meet the set Blue Flag standards. The Friends of Nancy Island and Wasaga Beach Park play an important role for the continuation of Wasaga Beach's Blue Flag status as they conduct surveys twice during the beach season which evaluates the park against the 27 criteria that Blue Flag sets. This summer several Friends members assisted in this role during July and August.

During the summer, Blue Flags are flown along the beach (in Beach Areas 1, 2, and 5). Should standards not be met during the beach season, the flags must be lowered. They remain lowered until the issue is removed or remedied.

Over 2500 beaches and marinas around the world have received this recognition. Environmental Defence is Canada's regulating link between Canadian beaches and the Foundation for Environmental Education, the founding agency for this program and other's that focus on environmental education and sustainability. Both the park and the Friends communicate with Environmental Defence in regards to the beach.
